The KV-3 was a tank with 120mm of frontal and 90mm of side armor. This comprehensive protection was even stronger than that of the German Tiger tanks almost a year later. Design requirements called for an improvement in artillery performance, so the KV-3 chose the B-34 type 107mm gun, renamed the ZIS-6 type gun. The gun's muzzle velocity was 800 meters per second. The UBR-420 penetrator weighed almost 19 kilograms and could penetrate 167 mm of armor at 500 meters. To improve the angle of fire, the turret was angled by no less than 30 degrees. Production was supposed to start in August 1941, but was prevented by the Wehrmacht attack on the Soviet Union. The only prototype was destroyed.
