The M19A1 was an anti-aircraft tank with a 40mm Bofors twin gun based on the M24 Chaffee. It weighed about 17.5 tons and had a 220 hp (160 kW) engine, with which it reached a top speed of 56 km/h. The turret was open at the rear. The open turret, which was moved to the rear, housed the twin cannon, for which 352 rounds of ammunition were carried. The M19 was operated by a crew of six.
Although it was developed during the Second World War, it was not used again. It was not until 1950 that it was used in the Korean War, but more for infantry ground support than for air defence. The USA used it until 1953, the Netherlands until 1978. With the modified turret of the M-19 on the M-41 Walker Bulldog chassis, the M42 Duster replaced the M19.
