The Soviet T-62M tank is a modernized version of the T-62. Introduced in the early 1960s, it was already obsolete by the early 1980s. To improve its combat performance, it received reinforced armor on the frontal hull and turret. The T-62M was equipped with shaped-charge ammunition, the 9K116-2 Sheksna guided missile system, a KTD-2 laser rangefinder, and a Tucha smoke grenade launcher. Modernized vehicles saw action in the Afghan War, as well as in the conflicts in Chechnya and Syria. The T-62M remains in service today.
