This gun is a further development of the 105 mm Type 81 gun for Type 59-II tanks, which is a licensed production of the 105 mm L7 tank gun from Royal Ordnance.
It is also equipped with an unmanned gun mount (RWS) as a secondary weapon, including a 12.7 mm machine gun, an automatic grenade launcher and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun.
The frontal armor of the turret is intended to have the same defensive power as the third generation main battle tank.
It has three crew members - a commander, a gunner and a driver - and is equipped with an NBC defense system, air conditioning and oxygen cylinders for high altitude activities.
It is equipped with a 1000 hp diesel engine at the rear, can reach a top speed of 70 km/h and is equipped with a twin turbo to facilitate operation in thin air environments.
