In 2016, work began on upgrading the existing Leopard 2 A6M with upgrades from the Leopard 2 A7 program.
This includes the installation of the external intercom at the rear, along with a modification of the tow cable routing, and the installation of the ultracapacitor on the fighting compartment roof.
The A6MA2 version also received the SPECTUS night vision system for the driver and the Dutch ELIAS command and control system.
