More than 8,500 M2/M2A1 howitzers were produced, and this type saw numerous combat missions in Europe and the Pacific.
In fact, one in five shells fired by the US Army during World War II came from a 105mm howitzer.
The gun had a range of 11.27 km.
In the Pacific, the 2260 kg weapon was widely used by the USMC and quickly gained a reputation for its accuracy and effectiveness.
The M2A1 was an improved version of this field gun with a modified breech.
