The competition version of the Lancia Delta HF 4WD road car is an icon among rally cars. Produced in the late 1980s, the Delta HF competed in the World Rally Championship in 1987 and 1988, securing two world titles and winning numerous events, including the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally and the Rallye Sanremo. Its successor, the Lancia Delta Integrale, remained in service until 1993, claiming five additional world titles and cementing the Italian manufacturer Lancia's successful rally legacy. In 1988 and 1989, the Lancia Delta achieved significant victories at the Safari Rally—a legendary competition established in 1953 that traversed several African countries and is considered one of the toughest races in the world. The Delta was specially modified for these events, featuring adapted suspension, reinforced shock absorbers, and various additional protective elements to better withstand the extreme demands of the course.
