Originally, the BMW company was focused on the manufacture and sale of folk cars. The development of the six-cylinder engine and the instructions from the Chancellery (1936) prompted BMW to reorient commercial policy and production. This is how the BMW 328 came about, the prototype of which was presented in June 1936. In the same year, the 328 won the A.D.A.C.-EIFELRENNEN at the NÜRBURGRING, beginning a series of over two hundred victories, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1939. At the beginning of the Second World War, 462 examples of this BMW were made.
