The B-52 Stratofortress is the most famous jet-powered strategic long-range bomber in aviation history.
Produced by the American company Boeing since 1955, it was a symbol of the Cold War for a long time.
It has been the backbone of the US Air Force's Strategic Air Command for several years.
The B-52 was produced in a considerable number of versions, gradually evolving the successful project to better meet changing operational requirements.
The B-52G was used in the Vietnam War from mid-1972, with seven aircraft lost.
In the Second Gulf War in 1991, they flew attacks against Iraqi targets.
By 1994, all examples had been retired. The B-52G was the last model with turbojet engines.
