The Rheinmetall Hermelin C-UAS is a highly mobile variant of the lightweight tactical Hermelin/Ermine vehicle family and was first presented at Eurosatory 2026 as a specialised platform for mobile counter-unmanned aircraft system operations. It is based on a compact 6×6 buggy with a diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain, in which the wheels are permanently electrically driven while an integrated diesel engine provides electrical power and extended operational endurance. This configuration combines high cross-country mobility with a significantly reduced acoustic and thermal signature and enables both silent driving and prolonged low-signature surveillance operations. Rheinmetall states a maximum range of up to 400 kilometres and a payload capacity of up to one tonne; in particularly quiet electric operation, ranges of up to 50 kilometres cross-country or 100 kilometres on roads are quoted. Its compact design is also air-transportable and optimised for rapid tactical deployment.
In the C-UAS configuration displayed at Eurosatory, the Hermelin is equipped with an FN DeFNder Medium remotely operated weapon station from FN Herstal mounting the high-rate-of-fire 12.7 × 99 mm M3M heavy machine gun as a kinetic effector against small unmanned aerial vehicles. The platform is complemented by sensors and command-and-control equipment for detecting, tracking and engaging drones, as well as Rheinmetall’s Path-A-Kit, which provides autonomous driving capabilities. The Hermelin can therefore be operated either manned or unmanned and integrated into manned-unmanned teaming concepts. Its electrical architecture also allows sensors and other mission equipment to remain powered with the combustion engine shut down and enables the vehicle to serve as a mobile power source when required. Rheinmetall has not yet publicly defined the exact sensor or radar configuration intended for any future production version; the armament displayed at Eurosatory should likewise be regarded as a modular C-UAS configuration rather than a fixed series-production standard.
