Demand soon exceeded Vought's production capacity, so production was taken over by Goodyear: The Corsairs built by Goodyear were designated FG.
From the delivery of the first prototype to the US Navy in 1940 until deliveries to the French in 1953, Vought produced 12,571 F4U Corsairs in 16 different models—the longest production run of a piston-engined fighter aircraft in US history.
The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was an American fighter aircraft used primarily in World War II and the Korean War.
