The maiden voyage of "Suroît" took place in April 1975.
It was constructed by the Ateliers et Chantiers de la Manche in Dieppe.
It was the second research ship (after "Le Noroît") from the series "N.O.R.O.I.S." (marine research ships, observation bases).
During the summer of 1985 she took an active part in exploring the wreck of the Titanic and, thanks to the S.A.R. (Sonar Acoustique Remorqué), a very sensitive detection instrument, it did a very good job.
