- HMS Invincible (Falkland War)

The Falklands War was fought between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982.
The Royal Navy (RN) played a crucial role in the recapture of the islands in the South Atlantic, and a key element of the naval task force sent to carry out this mission was HMS Invincible (R05). Invincible was the lead ship of a class of three light aircraft carriers.
She was commissioned on 11 July 1980, just two years before the outbreak of the Falklands conflict.
In fact, following an agreement reached in February 1982, she was earmarked for sale to the Royal Australian Navy for £175 million.
Instead, she steamed towards the South Atlantic alongside the aircraft carrier Hermes just three days after Argentina's invasion of the Falklands on 2 April 1982.
Her extensive aircraft fleet included eight Sea Harriers and twelve Sea King helicopters, which would take off and land on her 170m ski jump deck in continuous service against Argentine forces.
Invincible and her aircraft played a vital role in the recapture of the islands.
