The Vampire was built in England and entered service as a warship in 1917.
In 1933 she was handed over to the Royal Australian Navy.
In December 1941 she was deployed to combat in Malaya and was involved in the rescue of crew members from the sinking British battlecruiser Repulse.
In April of the following year, the Vampire was sunk near the British colony of Ceylon.
