The Shokaku was a mainstay of the Japanese Navy's mobile fleet from the beginning of World War II until her sinking by US submarines in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
With a good combination of speed, armament and protection, she is often considered the ideal aircraft carrier. This model shows the vessel as she looked at the start of World War II in operations such as the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of the Eastern Solomons.
