She was built in the early 1930s and commissioned in 1932.
She was the fourth and last ship of this class, which also included the Zara, the Fiume, and the Gorizia.
Compared to her sister ships, the Pola was designed as a flagship with a larger conning tower for an admiral's staff.
She was armed with eight 203 mm guns and reached a top speed of 32 knots.
She was sunk in 1941 at the Battle of Cape Matapan.
