After the first Antarctic expedition, Soya underwent major changes during the second and third expeditions.

• The foredeck was converted to a flat state with no side cutout.
• Addition of a large helicopter landing deck.
• Adding an overhang to the side of the bridge.
• Addition of a front goal pole and relocation of the rear goal pole.
• Equipped with a thin bilge keel divided into 4 parts on one side.
• Equipped with large helicopters etc.

In particular, the focus of the third renovation was on strengthening air transport capabilities with large helicopters to enable sufficient transport of people and supplies even if Soya is unable to approach the base due to deteriorating weather conditions.
