After the first Antarctic expedition, Soya underwent major modifications during the second and third expeditions.
The foredeck was converted to a flat design without a side cutout.

• A large helicopter landing deck was added.
• An overhang was added to the side of the bridge.
• A forward gate mast was added, and the aft gate mast was repositioned.
• Equipped with a thin bilge keel, divided into four sections on one side.
• Equipped with large helicopters, etc.

The focus of the third renovation was particularly on strengthening air transport capabilities with large helicopters to ensure sufficient transport of people and aid supplies, even when Soya is unable to approach the base due to deteriorating weather conditions.
