Trained toolmaker
His work is characterized by meticulous research and very realistic representation. Matthias Roth owns a whole library of reference books about history and modelling subjects. The self-built vacuum machine, two tool facturing milling machines and a lathe are at his disposal to work with the material Resin in a detailed and high-quality way.
What was the path to MR Modellbau like?
At the age of 14, his father bought him his first Airfix model (Churchill) during a rainy vacation on Baltrum island. The "virus" model building had gripped him and so this hobby became his constant companion.
Through his later training as a toolmaker and many years of professional experience, he became a real expert in this field, especially in the production of Resin models. After the German Bundeswehr and marriage, the "hobby" of model making took on more and more job-like characteristics.
International recognition
In professional circles, word got around that his work was very solid, and he received orders to produce so-called master models for other manufacturers at home and abroad, e.g. for Azimut and Cromwell.
A milestone for Matthias Roth was the first own series. Through his good contacts, among others to the American company VLS/Letterman, he was able to sell a lot of goods and so it was possible for him to start his own business with this financial basis. A second mainstay for him at this time was a part-time job at Kit Publishing as an editor and translator.
Gradually, he built up a worldwide network of dealers. Through meticulously kept stock lists of inventory, he is always in the picture and can guarantee a short delivery time, even for larger orders.
Product maintenance and meticulous research
Matthias Roth continues to develop novelties as resin models, but he has also dedicated the last few years to product maintenance: old models have been refurbished to improve the quality and keep them 'up to date', construction plans have been revised or renewed. Unlike in the past, he now has the Internet at his disposal for research, with a wealth of information, pictures and details. This allows him to adapt MR Modellbau's kits to today's standards, so that the customer always gets a high-quality object.
It is good to know that of the approximately 1300 items he has already created over the years, many models are still available.
