The Skorpion was a mechanical mine-laying system used by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) for the rapid deployment of DM-31 anti-tank mines. It was mounted on the M113 armored personnel carrier and could quickly create a minefield of defined density and size. The system consisted of 30 tubes that fired the mines like rockets up to 100 meters – in a spread of approximately 70 meters wide and 200 meters deep. A complete strip of mines could be laid in under two minutes.
It was primarily used to block areas against armored enemy forces. Due to the international ban on area mines, the system was later decommissioned.
