The Dingo 2 A2.3 KWS represents the enhanced combat capability of the Dingo 2 wheeled vehicle in the A2.3 configuration. While the basic A2.3 variant already incorporates a number of technical improvements over older Dingo models – for example, in the drive train, electronics, and air conditioning – the KWS (Combat Value Enhancement) version specifically addresses the increased demands on protection, command and control, and weapon integration.
Externally, the Dingo 2 A2.3 KWS closely resembles its predecessor, but differs in visible modifications such as new sensor elements, a modernized weapon station, and, in some cases, a modified antenna layout. The most striking innovation is the optional integration of the new FLW 200+ or comparable modern remotely controlled weapon stations, which are more powerful than the previously installed weapon station. This allows the vehicle to operate with greater precision and, if necessary, with more powerful weapons (e.g., 12.7mm machine gun, 40mm grenade launcher).
Another key feature of the KWS version is the optimization of the electrical infrastructure. The onboard power supply has been reinforced to enable the operation of additional sensors, communications equipment, and command information systems. This includes, among other things, preparations for the installation of digital radios, network elements (MoTaKo/MoTIV), and a more robust air conditioning system to ensure reliable operation of the electronic components even under challenging climatic conditions.
The Dingo 2's protective equipment remains at its proven high level: The monocoque safety cell with its V-shaped mine-protection floor has not been structurally modified.
Inside, the KWS version offers new mounts and configurations for modernized radio workstations and operational equipment. Several ergonomic features have been revised – including improved seats, optimized cabling, and repositioned controls for the weapon station.
Despite the additional equipment, the Dingo 2 A2.3 KWS remains fully mobile: With its 239 kW (approx. 325 hp) diesel engine, all-wheel drive, and automatic transmission, it achieves a top speed of around 90 km/h, even in its upgraded state, with high off-road capability and ranges of over 800 km.
Overall, the Dingo 2 A2.3 KWS represents an important intermediate step in the modernization of the Bundeswehr's light armored vehicles. It combines the proven protection and high mobility of the Dingo family with current requirements for digital command and control capabilities, networked operations, and expanded operational roles – thus remaining a reliable system, particularly for reconnaissance, command, and security tasks.
