The SaAnh 70t mil "Spider" is the Bundeswehr’s latest eight-axle heavy-duty semi-trailer, designed to gradually replace the previous 7-axle, 70-ton model used for strategic tank transport. Developed by DOLL Fahrzeugbau, it is specifically engineered to transport modern combat vehicles—which have become significantly heavier—and operates in conjunction with heavy-duty tractor units such as the Scania SLT 650 and the SLT 50-3 Elefant.

In terms of design, it is an eight-axle low-bed semi-trailer featuring fully hydraulically suspended pendulum axles that adapt independently to the terrain. The load is distributed across a total of 32 wheels, significantly reducing ground pressure and enhancing off-road mobility. Seven of the eight axles feature active steering; this allows for a very tight turning radius despite the vehicle's length—a crucial advantage when maneuvering in loading zones or along narrow march routes. This capability is complemented by a remote-controlled maneuvering system that enables precise positioning of the trailer independently of the tractor unit.

Its official military classification is a "70-ton system," a designation that defines the authorized operational payload and serves as the basis for bridge classification and march planning. Technically, however, the system exceeds this rating: with an unladen weight of approximately 33.5 tons, it has a calculated design payload of approximately 79 tons. This margin was deliberately incorporated to accommodate dynamic loads encountered off-road, operation on slopes, and future generations of heavier vehicles.

Compared to its predecessor, the primary advancement lies not in a visible expansion of the loading area, but rather in structural optimization. The usable loading area has been optimized within military transport dimensions without significantly increasing the semi-trailer's overall length. Crucially, the addition of an eighth axle improves load distribution, enabling more uniform axle loads and reducing stress on individual running gear components. This enhances both structural service life and operational flexibility.

The system’s benefits are particularly evident when transporting modern main battle tanks such as the Leopard 2A7V: higher vehicle weights, additional protection modules, and varying configurations can be accommodated and transported more safely than with the previous seven-axle model. Ultimately, the "Spider" is not a radical new development but rather the logical evolution of a proven concept, specifically preparing the Bundeswehr for rising combat weights and long-term operational requirements.
