A railway track ending in a buffer stop was a common feature of railway stations, industrial sidings, and military loading facilities in Europe during World War II. The tracks conformed to the European standard gauge of 1,435 millimeters and terminated at a wooden or steel buffer stop designed to prevent vehicles from accidentally overrunning the end of the line. Such stub tracks were frequently used for parking railcars, shunting operations, or loading purposes.
