The Harrier II is a heavily modified version of the first-generation Harrier GR1/GR3 series, which first flew in December 1967.
The original aluminum alloy fuselage was replaced with one that made extensive use of composite materials, offering significant weight reduction and increased payload and range.
An all-new single-piece wing provides approximately 14 percent more surface area and greater thickness.
The British version of the Harrier II uses different avionics systems, an additional missile pylon forward of each winged landing gear, and reinforced wing leading edges to meet the higher bird strike requirements.
The Harrier T10 is the first two-seat training variant of the Harrier II.
