The Boeing B-47 Stratojet is a retired American long-range six-engine turbojet bomber designed to fly at highly subsonic speeds and at high altitude to evade enemy interceptors. The main role of the B-47 was that of a nuclear bomber capable of hitting targets inside the Soviet Union.
During the Cold War, the Strategic Air Command (SAC) initially established the 306th Bombardment Wing in 1950 as a medium Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bombardment Wing at MacDill AFB, Florida. He later flew Boeing B-50, Boeing KC-97 and Boeing B-47 Stratojet aircraft.
