The Eurocopter Tiger is an attack helicopter manufactured by the Eurocopter Group.
It is known as the EC-665 in Germany and the PAH-2 in France. In 1984, the French and German governments defined the requirements for a modern multi-role attack helicopter. The Eurocopter Group was 70% owned by Aérospatiale (France) and 30% by Daimler Aerospace (DASA, Germany). Due to high costs, the program was initially halted in 1986 but was resumed in 1987.
In November 1989, Eurocopter finally received the contract to build five prototypes. Three were intended as unarmed testbeds, while the other two were armed prototypes: one for the German anti-tank variant and the other for the French escort helicopter variant.
