The A-320 was developed by the European consortium Airbus S.A.S in the late 1980s and became the world's first passenger aircraft with a fly-by-wire system. Pilots steer the liner not with the help of traditional steering wheels, but move the side handles located on the sides of the cockpit. The on-board computer processes the signal from them and gives commands to the hydraulic motors of the rudders and wing mechanization. There are no pointers on the dashboard in front of the pilots - all information is displayed on color monitors.
