The Macchi MC.200 Saetta was built by Aeronautica Macchi in Italy. Its outstanding maneuverability, excellent overall flight characteristics, and exceptional stability during high-speed dives were among the fighter's greatest assets. Despite its relatively modest engine power and firepower, the MC.200 was considered a capable fighter aircraft. Italian Air Force pilots flew the MC.200 in every theater of war where Italian forces were engaged, achieving renown in numerous aerial combats. The Saetta proved itself to be by no means inferior when facing the most modern Allied fighter aircraft.
