Yakovlev Yak-38Yak-38 U "Forger B"

Production of the Yak-38 Forger began in 1975, making it the world's second operational VSTOL aircraft after the Harrier series. The aircraft's wings are centrally mounted, delta-shaped with blunt tips and negative rake. It is powered by a turboprop engine and twin lift nozzles. Two exhaust pipes are located on the underside of the rear fuselage. Large, semi-circular air intakes are positioned below the cockpit, well forward of the wings. The fuselage is long with a pointed nose and a tapered tail.
The Yak-38U "Forger-B" is a two-seat training version for the Soviet Naval Aviation. This version differed from the base aircraft by having an enlarged fuselage to accommodate a two-seat cockpit. The Yak-38U entered service on November 15, 1978. A total of 38 Yak-38Us were produced, with the 38th delivered in 1981.
