As early as April 1939, Messerschmitt began project work on a new high-speed fighter with a turbojet engine. On July 18, 1942, the Me 262 took to the skies for its maiden flight.
Powered by two Jumo 004B engines, it reached a top speed of 870 km/h and a cruising altitude of 6,000 m.
After the war, the aircraft was reconstructed by AVIA in Czechoslovakia using existing parts.
