This version of the P-39 Airacobra fighter was ordered by the British Purchase Commission from the Bell Company.
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the US entry into the war, 200 examples were constructed by the USAAF as the P-400 and sent to the 5th AF for use in the Southwest Pacific.
