
Due to the special dorsal auxiliary air intakes, however, only the tank in the dorsal part of the fuselage could be enlarged; its capacity increased by 240 liters.
The enlarged fuselage tank made the upper fuselage contour convex instead of concave. In addition, the use of new pylons allowed the installation of two additional drop tanks under the wings. With three drop tanks, the fighter achieved a range of 3,000 km.
The aircraft was also equipped with a range of new electronic countermeasures, and the armament load was increased to 3,200 kg.
The prototype of the MiG-29C (Izdeliye 9.13) took off for the first time on May 4, 1984.
