The wings were so compact that they did not need to be folded for carrier storage.
A-4M: Special naval version with improved avionics and a more powerful J52-P-408a engine with 50 kN thrust, an enlarged cockpit, and an IFF system.
Later equipped with the Hughes AN/ASB-19 Angle Rate Bombing System (ARBS) with TV and laser spot tracker; 158 units were built.
