The Bf 109K4 was produced by Messerschmitt Regensburg GmbH, and its maiden flight took place on August 11, 1944.
This aircraft represents Germany's insistence on improving existing designs rather than risking a new one. Fortunately, Messerschmitt learned a great deal during the production of the Bf 109G and was therefore able to refine the 109 into the Bf 109K, which was more streamlined and fitted with the Daimler-Benz DB 605D engine.
This engine delivers a base power of 2,000 hp. This engine makes the Bf 109K4 considerably faster than the Bf 109G. The other major innovation in the 109K was the standardization of the 30 mm Mk 108 cannon.
