However, the aircraft suffered from production issues stemming from a lack of basic industrial strength and malfunctions in its Ha-40 liquid-cooled engine due to inexperienced maintenance.
Nevertheless, it achieved success in the Philippines, New Guinea, and in the defense of the Japanese homeland. In particular, during the defense of the homeland, a stable parts supply and the efforts of veteran maintenance personnel allowed it to maintain a high operational rate. Furthermore, its superior high-altitude performance compared to other Japanese aircraft allowed it to perform adeptly against the B-29.
In particular, the 244th Air Squadron, led by Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi, the youngest squadron commander in the history of the Japanese Army, fought fiercely, shooting down over 160 B-29s by the end of the war, making it the most successful unit in history.

The attachment points between the main wings and fuselage use the familiar large spar parts, allowing for precise positioning. The set includes two types of windshield: a one-piece type for the closed position and a three-piece type for the open position.
One seated figure is included. Two head parts are available, with and without an oxygen mask. Decals include "295," the aircraft flown by Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi, commander of the 244th Air Squadron (Chōfu Airfield, January 1945), as well as two other types.
