Ilyushin IL-2M 3 Ground Attack Aircraft

The Ilyushin Il-2 "Shturmovik" was a Soviet ground-attack aircraft of World War II. It was designed as an armored aircraft for low-level close air support, capable of engaging enemy tanks and other ground targets. The prototype (TsKB-57) made its maiden flight on October 12, 1940; serial production began in March 1941, and it entered service in May of the same year. A total of 36,163 units were built. The "Shturmovik" played a crucial role on the Eastern Front and was known by nicknames such as "Black Death."
Il-2: Single-seat early-production version delivered to frontline units in May and June 1941; powered by the AM-38 engine and armed with 20mm ShVAK or 23mm VYa cannons in the wings.
