The Saab JAS 39 Gripen entered service in the second half of the 1990s and represented a significant improvement over its predecessors, such as the Saab 37 Viggen.
The Swedish air superiority and multi-role fighter was soon developed in a two-seat version to meet the requirements of advanced pilot training.
This variant essentially retains the same high performance as the single-seat fighter, but offers greater operational flexibility and can perform reconnaissance and ground-attack missions.
The aircraft's innovative aerodynamic design, which provides excellent maneuverability, strong flight performance, a top speed of Mach 2.0, and the ability to carry a diverse and flexible attack payload, also contributed to its commercial success outside Sweden.
