Supermarine developed a two-seat variant of the Spitfire for training purposes, but only one was ever built. Since there was no official two-seat version, a number of aircraft were converted locally on a temporary basis.
The only unofficial two-seater conversions, equipped with dual controls, were a few Soviet Mk IXs built under the Lend-Lease Act. These were designated Mk IX UTI.
