The Dassault Mirage 2000 is a French-built multi-role fighter that entered service in the early 1980s. Originally developed as a single-seat aircraft optimized for air superiority and interception missions, it was later developed into the Mirage 2000D variant, specifically designed for ground attack and low-altitude penetration missions. Entering service with the French Air Force, the Mirage 2000D retained the typical delta-wing aerodynamic configuration of the Mirage 2000, but featured a two-seat layout with a pilot and a weapons systems officer responsible for target acquisition and weapons control. The aircraft saw service in various theaters of operation, including Libya and Afghanistan. The Mirage 2000D can carry a diverse offensive payload for a wide range of mission profiles and has undergone continuous avionics and electronics upgrades to extend its operational life.
