The AV-8B Harrier II multirole combat aircraft, capable of both attack and close air support, was developed through the collaboration of British and American aerospace industries.
It represents a significant advancement over the early short takeoff and vertical landing (V/STOL) aircraft of the Harrier family.
The AV-8B was designed and implemented for operation from aircraft carriers without catapults, amphibious assault ships, and improvised runways.
