The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark is a twin-engine, supersonic fighter-bomber featuring variable-sweep wings. It entered production in the late 1960s and remained in service until the late 1990s; its technical design features represented a significant technological leap compared to the aircraft of its era.

The F-111 was capable of reaching speeds of Mach 2.5 and carrying a substantial offensive payload. It was operated by a two-person crew seated side-by-side in a pressurized cockpit equipped with an emergency escape capsule. The F-111 saw action in several conflicts, including the Vietnam War, where it was deployed for night bombing missions and low-level strikes. Thanks to its advanced radar and terrain-following capabilities, the aircraft could fly at low altitudes even in poor visibility, thereby evading enemy air defenses.
