Stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, the VAQ-131 "Lancers" squadron deploys the EA-18G worldwide for electronic reconnaissance, jamming of enemy radar and communication systems, and suppression of enemy air defenses.
The aircraft, unveiled in 2025, features a striking special CAG livery representing the squadron commander, yet it remains in active service for regular flight operations. Technically, the EA-18G is based on the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet but is equipped with highly advanced electronic warfare systems. These include sensors for detecting enemy radar emissions and powerful jamming systems, such as the AN/ALQ-249 Next Generation Jammer. Furthermore, the Growler can engage enemy radar installations using AGM-88 HARM or AARGM missiles and defend itself with AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. Thanks to these capabilities, the EA-18G plays a pivotal role in protecting aircraft carrier strike groups and supporting modern air operations. The colorful VAQ-131 "Lancers" aircraft of 2025 combines this high level of operational capability with one of the most distinctive special liveries in current US Naval Aviation.
