The mighty Boeing Chinook HC.1 entered service in 1980 and has benefited from almost constant upgrades and new acquisitions ever since. It has become an essential part of the British military's capabilities. Indeed, it seems that the only aircraft capable of replacing a Chinook is another Chinook—a situation that is unlikely to change in the coming years.

With the latest Chinooks being among the most modern aircraft in the Royal Air Force's current inventory, the Chinook Sustainment Programme will ensure that these aircraft can continue to serve the nation as only the Chinook can for at least two decades.
