Supermarine developed a two-seat variant of the Spitfire for training purposes, but only one was ever built. Since there was no official two-seat version, a number of aircraft were converted on the fly.
Every Spitfire Tr was originally a single-seat fighter, either a Mk.VIII or, more commonly, a Mk.IX.
Although the Spitfire is arguably the most famous combat aircraft in history, with over 20,000 produced, no official two-seat training variants were ever manufactured during World War II.
