The Avia Ba.122 was a Czechoslovakian aerobatic biplane of the 1930s, developed by the aircraft manufacturer Avia. It was a further development of earlier models and was specifically designed for demanding competitive aerobatics, in which it achieved great international success.
The aircraft was a single-seat biplane of mixed construction with wood and metal components and fixed landing gear. The Ba.122 was characterized by its compact design, high stability, and excellent maneuverability, which enabled precise aerobatic maneuvers. It was typically powered by an air-cooled radial engine (various versions, such as the Avia Rk-17), allowing it to reach a top speed of approximately 280–300 km/h.
The Avia Ba.122 gained international renown through its successes in aerobatic competitions, particularly at European events during the 1930s. Pilots from Czechoslovakia repeatedly achieved top rankings with it, solidifying the aircraft's reputation as one of the best aerobatic aircraft of its time.
Overall, the Avia Ba.122 is considered one of the most significant aerobatic aircraft of the pre-war era, distinguished by its performance, reliability, and precise flight characteristics.

Avia Ba.122.8, Pilot: Petr Široký, Nations Cup, Berlin-Rangsdorf 1936

In Paris, Novák finished fourth and Ambruž eighth. The aircraft was further modified, the rudder enlarged, and winglets added to the upper wing surface. This version was designated Ba.122. For the Nations Cup aerobatic competition held before the Berlin Olympics at the end of July 1936, OK-AWA and AWE were equipped with a more powerful nine-cylinder Avia Rk-17 engine, and OK-AVI with a Walter Pollux engine. Široký finished second, Novák third, and Ambruž eighth. In June 1937, Sergeant Šimek collided with an Avia Ba.122.14, flown by Sergeant Půda, during aerobatic training in an OK-AWA. The latter landed with a damaged aircraft, Šimek saved himself by parachute and the aircraft was destroyed on impact with the ground.
