The Avia Ba.122.7 was a further development of the Czechoslovakian aerobatic biplane Avia Ba.122 from the 1930s. It was designed by the Avia company specifically for competitive aerobatics and represented one of the most capable variants of this aircraft family.
Historically, the Ba.122.7 is primarily known for its participation in international aerobatic competitions. Of particular note is its success at the 1937 Zurich International Air Competition, where Czechoslovakian pilots achieved top rankings with this aircraft. The plane was considered extremely agile and precise, making it ideal for demanding aerobatic maneuvers.
Technically, it was a single-seat biplane of mixed construction (wood and metal) with fixed landing gear. The Ba.122.7 was powered by a high-performance radial engine (usually an Avia Rk-17), which enabled it to reach a top speed of approximately 300 km/h. Its robust construction and high structural strength, necessary for extreme flight attitudes, were characteristic features.
In summary, the Avia Ba.122.7 was a specialized, high-performance aerobatic aircraft of its time, remembered primarily for its international competition successes and outstanding flight characteristics.

Avia Ba.122.7 Lt. František Novák, Nations' Prize, Berlin-Rangsdorf 1936

In Paris, Novák finished fourth and Ambruž eighth. The aircraft was further modified, the rudder enlarged, and winglets added to the upper surface of the wing. This version was already designated Ba 122. For the "Nations' Prize" aerobatic competition held before the Berlin Olympics at the end of July 1936, the aircraft OK-AWA and AWE were equipped with a more powerful nine-cylinder Avia Rk-17 engine, and OK-AVI with a Walter Pollux engine. Široký finished second, Novák third, and Ambruž eighth. The Avia Ba.122.7 later flew with the registration S-1 in Trenčanske Biskupice, Slovakia. It was destroyed in a crash in the summer of 1943.
