On March 12, 1945, two prototypes of the Seafang MK.32 were ordered, followed by an order for 150 Seafang MK.31s on May 7, 1945.
To expedite entry into service, the MK.31 was ordered—a Spiteful converted for naval use, essentially a Spiteful with an arrestor hook.
This enabled the development of the MK.32, the final naval variant, which featured an additional arrestor hook, a counter-rotating propeller to avoid engine torque effects, and electrically folding outer wing panels.
