Stock Alert
In British reconnaissance and fighter operations, the Hurricane was overshadowed by the Spitfire.
However, where the famous PR Spitfires were in short supply, Hurricanes were successfully deployed.
This was especially true for the most intensive and interesting missions in the Mediterranean and the Far East.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.II is a further development of the famous fighter designed by Sydney Camm.
It was created by installing a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine with a two-stage supercharger into the standard airframe. This solution significantly improved performance. The new version, the Hurricane Mk.IIa, with unchanged armament, made its maiden flight on June 11, 1940. Shortly afterward, the Hurricane Mk.IIb variant followed, equipped with twelve 7.69 mm machine guns in the wings. Unfortunately, the small caliber of the weapons did not significantly improve firepower, especially against armored targets. The situation improved with the introduction of the Mk IIc version, which was armed with four 20 mm cannons.
Standard Hurricane Mk.II Trop fighters were converted for reconnaissance missions in two ways. In 1941, "true" Hurricane PR.IIs were developed at the Heliopolis airbase in Egypt – unarmed, equipped with cameras, and with additional fuel tanks in the wings instead of the cannons to increase range. The second variant was tactical reconnaissance aircraft, known as "Tac-R," which differed from the fighters only by having a camera and an additional radio for communicating with ground troops. They were armed, but often some of the cannons were removed to reduce the weight of the aircraft, which was then loaded with additional photographic equipment. They frequently even had bomb racks.

  • Two sets of plastic parts (one each for the Mk II B and C versions)
