The Mil Mi-8MTV-5 "Hip" is a modern multi-role transport helicopter variant of the proven Mi-8 family and ranks among the most widely used military helicopters in the world. Developed as an evolution of the Mi-8MT, it features more powerful turboshaft engines, an improved main gearbox, and modern avionics, significantly enhancing its operational capability in high-temperature and high-altitude environments.

The Mi-8MTV-5 can transport up to 36 fully equipped soldiers, 4,000 kg of internal cargo, or up to 4,500 kg of external payload. A large, hydraulically operated rear ramp and sliding side doors facilitate the rapid loading and unloading of personnel and equipment. Depending on the mission, the helicopter can serve as a troop transport, cargo and supply aircraft, air ambulance, search-and-rescue helicopter, or be deployed for special operations.

For self-defense, the Mi-8MTV-5 is equipped with armor protecting the cockpit and critical components, as well as countermeasures dispensers to counter infrared- and radar-guided missiles. Additionally, it can be armed with machine guns, unguided rockets, bombs, or anti-tank guided missiles, enabling it to provide fire support.

Thanks to its robust design, high reliability, and versatile operational capabilities, the Mi-8MTV-5 is utilized by the Russian armed forces and numerous export customers.
