The Vought SB2U Vindicator was an American carrier-based dive bomber developed for the United States Navy in the 1930s, the first monoplane in that role.
Vindicators remained in service at the time of the Battle of Midway, but by 1943 all training units had been allocated.
In Royal Navy service it was known as the Chesapeake.
The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II that took place on 4–7 June 1942, six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea.
